Understanding Generational Gap at Work

Here is an interesting article which I had read some time ago about Generational Theory:
http://www.thenexgengroup.com/resources/203/Understanding%20the%20Generations%20at%20Work.pdf

The Builders (born between early 1900s - mid 1940s)
  • Pioneers, bold, challenge boundaries.
  • Worship heroes (Winston Churchill, Gandhi, Superman) who reflect self-discipline, fierce courage and deep patriotism.
  • Stoic sense of duty, thrift, hardworking.
  • Likes things done "properly"
  • Tend to like measuring output, cutting costs and benchmarking productivity.
  • Lesser emphasis on rights, needs and feelings of individuals.
The Baby Boomers (born between mid 1940s - mid 1960s)
  • Optimistic
  • Believes that anything is possible if dream big enough and work hard enough.
  • Challenges conservative values and tradition.
  • Dominant, brand conscious, competitive.
Generation X (born between mid 1960s - early 1980s)
  • Distrustful
  • Concept of "family" changed dramtically.
  • Known as Latchkey Kids.
  • Feels overlooked and sidelined.
  • Exhibits high degree of pragmatism, self reliance, flexibility and scepticism.
  • Values friendship over family
  • Likes working in team-based, loosely organised and relationship-driven environments.
Generation Y (born between early 1980s - late 1990s)
  • Strong sense of self esteem, empowerment and confidence.
  • Questions authority.
  • Sees a good job as a right rather than a privilege.
  • Views "career" as a long resume-building experience.
  • High levels of ambition.
  • Tech-savvy, innovative and highly educated.

Can you relate to any of the above?  :)
