Truths about Food

This is an interesting documentary by BBC which talks about truth about food and how to be slim. The video seems to be quite old. There may be new studies and researches done in recent times. But I personally find that the facts presented here are quite useful.

BBC: How to Be Slim

Here are some truths about food:

#1 - If you're overweight, you eat too much.

  • Your intake of calories exceeds your burning of calories.
  • And the excess calories are stored in your body as fat.
#2 - Protein keeps you feeling fuller for longer.
  • Scientific studies have proven that protein is more satiating than carbohydrates and fats (watch the experiment at 17:00).
#3 - Eat dairy to excrete more fat.
  • A high calcium diet helps the body to excrete 100% more fat from the body compared to a low calcium diet (watch the experiment at 17:00).
  • Dairy typically has high calcium content.
#4 - The larger the portion, the more you'll eat.
  • The larger the portion given, the more a person eats, even if the whole portion tastes terrible (watch the experiment at 32:00).
  • Keep a food diary helps you keep track of your food portion intake.
#5 - Eat soup will fill you up for longer.
  • A soup meal stretches the stomach and keeps it full for a longer period of time compared to solid food meal (watch the experiment at 49:00).
  • Water can keep you full longer, but only when it's filled with food.

If you're embarking on a dieting mission to lose fat, I personally still recommend that you talk to experts who have been trained and has scientific knowledge on the dieting method.
